I awoke this morning with this idea/vision And would like to share. I tried to Email Patrica Barrette but I got it back as undeliverable Than i made a few phone call here and there with no luck on how to get in touch with her. Here is a copy of the email I sent her. Hi Patricia This is Peggy Simensen don't know if you remember me. City of Redding boarded up my house in 2005. Anyhow I have been hearing alot about the homeless lately and the statistics on how many there are or arnt. excuse my french but a bunch of crap. I have an idea and want to see what you think. what would it take to have a stand up and be counted day. maybe a month or so away enough time so that the homeless would know about it. We could line the street say hwy 273. Also when i say homeless I'm talking about people and families on the streets, in the mission, under trees, in camps, walkways, and the ones temporally staying at friend/families etc. I thought maybe an incentive drawing or something like that I don't know? Thank you for all that you do My Phone
Funnything I did this before I learned about homeless awareness day 10-10-10 hmmm now I feel stronger than ever is this some kind of sign. God bless What do you think?

Lisa Ling: Sacramento Should Be Proud For Taking Steps To Eliminate HomelessnessMatthew Keys - August 11, 2010SACRAMENTO — Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson has called on his staff to choose three locations within the city that could be the permanent spot for a "Safe Ground" facility. Mayor Johnson, who has been a vocal proponent of permanent housing for Sacramento's homeless community, said at a press conference Tuesday that issues surrounding "Safe Ground" had been some of the most frustrating during his term. "It's a thorny issue, but it's one that I don't mind being out in front of," Mayor Johnson was quoted as saying in the Sacramento Bee newspaper. The issue of a safe ground -- a place for Sacramento's homeless population to gather as a community -- rose to prominence after several "tent city" communities were highlighted by journalist Lisa Ling on an episode of the " Oprah Winfrey Show." Ling praised Mayor Johnson's efforts in being proactive about permanent housing for Sacramento's homeless population during an interview on FOX40 Live Wednesday. "I really respect Mayor Johnson for taking this issue head-on," Ling, who hails from Sacramento, said in the four-minute interview aired Wednesday. "I think as Sacramentans, we should be proud that this could be a city where homelessness could be eliminated." Read More / Video:

Homeless increasingly targets of crime, figures showModesto police called the attacks cowardly, random and unprovoked.Merrill Balassone, MCT September 1, 2010 Two 55-year-old homeless men - severely beaten, bloodied and unconscious - were found lying in public bathrooms at Modesto's Enslen and Graceada parks in June 2008. Police arrested 23-year-old Michael Boogie Anthony Hardwick Jr. of Modesto for the crime. He was sentenced in April to six years in prison. "They didn't have anything. They were homeless," prosecutor Wendell Emerson said of the victims. "I think it was just a cruel crime where he just picked vulnerable victims who couldn't fight back." New data show homeless people nationwide were singled out in more than 1,000 attacks over the last 11 years by perpetrators motivated by anti-homeless hostility and a perception of their victims as easy targets. Last year was the deadliest in a decade for hate crimes against the homeless, with 43 people killed, according to the report by the National Coalition for the Homeless. That's an increase from 27 killings in 2008. Read more: http://www.vancouversun.com/news/Homeless+increasingly+targets+crime+figures+show/3470749/story.html#ixzz0yPEs1SAq

Does Rise In Killings of Homeless Signal a Decline in Our Values? One of the most sought after commentators on hate violence against the homeless is a celebrity and author who lacks stage experience, an advanced degree, or even a law enforcement background. Rufus Hannah's celebrity, however, is not the kind that anyone would seek. When he was drunk and homeless, a toothless and disheveled Hannah was exploited by young filmmakers, who humiliated and injured him and others to make a wildly popular youth cult video series called Bumfights. The films, now viral on the web, have been mentioned numerous times by murderous youths from coast to coast as part of their inspiration for targeting the homeless in their communities for vicious attacks. Hannah now sober, employed and the co-author of a new book, " A Bum Deal" uses his celebrity to bring the plight of the homeless to legislators and students across the country. "I am best known for the violence perpetrated against me and Vietnam veteran Donnie Brennan in the video called Bumfights....This violence caused us crippling injuries. I have double vision and equilibrium problems and will never be able to drive a motor vehicle. Donnie had his ankle and foot broken and has a rod and screws [implanted] and walks with a limp, always in pain." However, the violence did not start or stop for the Army veteran when the cameras started rolling: "When I was homeless and living on the streets of San Diego...someone approached me with a gun and pointed it in my face. Other times I witnessed older homeless people have their shopping carts flipped over, and all their belongings scattered on the street by teenagers. The teens would throw shoes and other items at the elderly homeless people and verbally taunt them. Another incident in La Mesa, California I was tormented by young teenagers who sprayed a fire extinguisher in my face while laughing at me." Read More:
