Over burdened by the tremendous need here in Redding and Shasta County, (Pantry is nearly empty, incoming funds are scarce, ) Redding Loaves and Fishes is calling out to the Christian community for help. Most charitable organizations have a difficult time receiving donations over the summer months, and as we are a new , reforming ministry, we are even more keenly aware of this fact. Quite frankly , due to a recent emergency at a trailer park in Lakehead, its come to our attention that Redding and Shasta County is grosely unprepared for an emergency or disaster of any proportion.

So many folks here in our Community live in , or are on the verge of "dire straits" It only takes one or two unforseen events to occur in a family or individuals life, ( Earthquakes, fires, gasoline price raises, increased health care costs, rent, utilities ,uncaring land lords )etc. One might find themselfs in a situation that they never dreamed they would be in...

Even though news media insists the economy and job market is
improving, those in the social services continue to see an increase
in those needing services, (25% increase of people Nationaly needing
food help since Jan of 2006 !!), even more here in Northern California.
It seems like there is some kind of mis-information of some sort
being put out there. Im curiouse if other social services, in other
parts of the Country are experencing this same trend ??

Homelessness and poverty here in Redding and Shasta County has been allowed to silently fester to epidemic proportions, with little being done in the past and even less planning for the future. I sadly wonder what kind of New Orleans type tragedy will it take for Us to to come to our senses....and prepare.

At this time we will be asking our Church supporters if they can do one Special Offering collection during one of their services during the month of July during this critical time for our ministry, and may we continue " To honor God by seeing the face of Christ in every person we serve"
